General Reflexology

About Reflexology

Every organ and structure of the body is represented in a specific place on the feet. A Reflexologist will apply pressure to those different areas, which will stimulate the energy flow along a pathway or meridian, clearing congestion and balancing it throughout.

Reflexology can restore balance and harmony to the body, improve bodily functioning, improve blood supply, relieve pain, relax tension, reduce anxiety and stress, help the body detoxify itself and will give a good sense of well-being. So overall, it is seen that reflexology can restore the body back to it’s maximum potential and enable it to heal itself more efficiently.

Most people get good results and say that their lives have changed for the better.

About the Treatment Session

Before the first treatment, details will be taken of your medical history, diet and lifestyle in a confidential consultation. This enables me to assess any current problems and to offer advice as to how improvements can be made to your lifestyle. Subsequent treatments consist of a shorter consultation to assess how you are responding.

You will then be made comfortable on a reclining chair and your feet will be raised to a suitable level and covered by a towel. If it is more convenient you can sit in a chair of your own choice and I can use a specially designed adjustable foot stool for you to rest your legs on.

Your feet will then be cleansed and a light dusting of natural powder will be applied. This ensures good contact with the reflex points.

I will work on each foot in turn by applying specific pressure to the reflex points using small, firm, creeping movements with my thumb or forefinger. Congestion, tension or inflammation in the body is revealed as tenderness over the reflex areas. The pressure used will be firm but not uncomfortable and should not cause pain or impact on the relaxing nature of this treatment. I will treat all reflexes and then return to any problem areas. This will last for approximately 1 hour and concludes with a foot massage, using moisturising cream.

Following a treatment you will feel completely relaxed.  I will also give you aftercare, lifestyle and dietary advice to take home with you.

The Benefits Of Reflexology

Reflexology may relieve symptoms associated with many acute and chronic conditions. In general a chronic condition will take longer to respond and may take up to six treatments before an improvement occurs. Immense benefits, however, can be gained from just one treatment.

You don’t need to be ill to benefit from Reflexology as the relaxation and feeling of well-being achieved can benefit everybody. This especially applies in today’s environment of high pressure, high stress and increased workload.

I have experience working with people suffering from the following conditions;

  • Hayfever
  • Heart Problems
  • Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • IBS
  • Constipation
  • Back problems
  • PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome)
  • Depression
  • Arthritis
  • Sinus problems
  • Migraine
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
  • Endometriosis
  • Pregnancy
  • Fertility Issues
  • Pre-conceptual care
  • IVF Support
  • Multiple Sclerosis

And many more.............

Reflexology is safe, efficient and highly effective. It is suitable for babies too, relieving the effects of birth trauma and colic. Elderly people benefit too, gaining relief from the many aches and pains associated with old age.

Reflexology complements Cancer care, and may ease symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting and anxiety. I have experience using this therapy, in a voluntary role at St Francis Hospice, Havering-Atte-Bower

Reflexologists DO NOT claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Please visit your GP or consultant before seeking Reflexology if you have an undiagnosed condition. Reflexology will complement your medical treatment in most cases.

Please see my separate pages which cover Maternity Reflexology and Fertility Issues in more detail.

And Finally......

Many of my clients are often embarrassed about the condition of their feet. ie

  • their toe nails are not painted
  • they haven’t had a pedicure recently
  • their legs are hairy
  • they have bunions, corns or calluses

Please do not let any of this prevent you from having Reflexology. It really doesn’t matter to me at all. I regularly see feet of all shapes and sizes. All I ask is that your feet are washed prior to your treatment for hygiene purposes. Your feet will also be cleansed with anti-bacterial wipes before treatment commences. If you have any concerns about when not to have treatment, please refer to my FAQ page.
