Fertility Reflexology
Sub-Fertility is the term used if you have been trying to conceive for over a year without success and diagnostic tests have failed to reveal any medical problems with you or your partner.
Whether you are sub-fertile or/and have hormonal conditions such as endometriosis or polycystic ovaries (PCOS) then having a course of gentle, hormone balancing reflexology treatments together with recommended dietary and lifestyle changes can greatly improve your chances of conceiving.
Reflexology will also help you to deal with the stress and frustrations that a fertility problem can create. Relationships can be challenged by infertility so patience, determination and understanding are all required to get through the emotional rollercoaster of highs and lows. You may also be experiencing stress caused by other factors such as long working hours, other children and family members. The relaxing and calming nature of reflexology at this time will help to ease any stress that you are suffering and put your body in a better state to conceive. It is also recommended that your partner follows any dietary and lifestyle changes, together with regular reflexology treatments, to optimise your chances of conceiving.
There are many factors which are known to affect fertility in both males and females;
Smoking
Alcohol – drinking regularly can reduce fertility by half. Just 5 units per week can stop pregnancy.
Caffeine – 2 cups of coffee per day can reduce fertility by half.
Over or under exercise.
An unbalanced diet with too many convenience foods.
Additives and preservatives – Aspartame in particular affects the quality of sperm. Look out for this substance in chewing gum, fizzy drinks, fruit squashes and anything labelled as ‘diet’.
Stress
Obesity
Being underweight
PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
Endometriosis
If you are still putting toxins into your body whilst undergoing treatment then the body is working harder to heal itself and reflexology won’t be as effective. It is important to remember that reflexology treats the whole body and that we aren’t just a collection of body parts. Every organ and body part interacts so the body is considered as a whole when undergoing treatment. Reflexology will stimulate and stabilize the whole hormonal system.
When considering reflexology as an aid to fertility it is advisable to have weekly or fortnightly treatments at different times during your menstrual cycle. A full treatment plan will be discussed when you have your first consultation.

Fertility Reflexology and Assisted Reproductive Techniques (Clomid or IVF treatment)
Fertility reflexology can be a great boost during the pre-conceptual stage and can help put your body into the optimum condition to conceive. If you have decided to commence treatment with the drug Clomid or undergo any other medical fertility treatment then it is still worth having reflexology before your treatment begins. Reflexology can help you cope with the stress and emotions that will inevitably be running high at this time and will help to calm and relax you prior to your treatment.
It is not advisable to have reflexology when taking clomid and treatments must finish just before the down regulation stage of IVF.
Reflexology can commence when a positive or negative result has been confirmed, with the permission of your specialist.
Reflexology is contraindicated during these medical treatments because reflexology aims to balance the hormonal system and encourages one ovum to be produced each cycle. The drug treatments have the opposite effect in that they powerfully stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple ovum and therefore contradict reflexology treatment.
